About H.O.M.E.Y.
HOMEY is a grassroots organization established by youth, for youth to work toward preventing youth violence and self-destruction. We grew out of the Violence Prevention Initiative funded by the California Wellness Foundation and now operate under the fiscal sponsorship of the International Child Resource Institute (ICRI). HOMEY was established in 1999 by former gang members and young leaders from the community that were frustrated with the approach of traditional services and wanted to establish new methods of preventing youth violence and self-destruction. Since its inception, HOMEY has created youth publications and has implemented educational workshops in Mission District schools that build skill, and self-esteem while preventing violence. HOMEY has also hosted numerous events and resource fairs promoting health and well being to youth and the community. By providing peer led programs around issues identified by those we serve, we address the root causes of violence and oppression to build a sustainable healthy community and a culture of peace!
